As in real life there are people who want to try and pull scams to separate you from your hard earned money (ISK). There are various means in Eve how con artist players have devised. The following are some common tactics used in game play and a few that I have run across in a years worth of game play.
Mining Permits: You will come across this con in locations that have Blue, Clear, Glazed ice and other popular ore systems. A player will either send you a e-mail or blow you up then contact you. The scammers will proclaim that their corporation has authority in the system and that a “Permit” must be purchased. In order to legally operated safely in quote “Their Space”. This is total crap because I have personally gotten 15 e-mails in a year’s time in the same system from various players in corporations. So if they truly have authority in that area. Why allow other corporations to safely operate in their territory and under cut corp. profit? Answer none and existence of authority is a true farce.
Games of Chance: In local chat, e-mail and in personal chat request scammers will post to their bio’s or even a elaborate web site/pages. Examples of lucky winners who risked a posted sum of ISK and the results of various increments of profitable pay out to players. Total farce there are never any winners only gullible losers who buy into the hype that they are going to win a exuberant amount of money (ISK). If willing to take on a “game of luck” with low investment and high return. As in real life if it sounds too good to be true then more than likely it is. Just common sense as exercised in the real world.
Mystery Contracts: In game play, if you do not know already, you can create “contracts” to exchange goods to people, transfer goods and offer products to public for purchase. Mostly if you review a contract products offered will have a itemized list of items you will receive upon purchase, acceptance of transfer or success in a bid. Now and then you may find a box for public purchase that is labeled “various items” and the container described as encased in “bubble wrap”. If a person has a box and says for $100.00 you can purchase the contents but not able to know or see the items. Would you hand over the agreed sum? Good proper answer that first comes to mind “No way”.
Help Me…!!! : This is classic and basic scam that a person will approach you via mail but predominantly chat. And proclaim that if you give them PLEX to extend their game time they will be your “Corp Slave” or “Pay you back with interest”. As with any good con artist they may chat you up and take time to get you comfortable with them. So much so you may be inclined to part with your PLEX or ISK. Bottom line “NEVER” give isk to anyone you have not know for a reasonable period of time. Again in closing exercise common sense and apply true life logic when approached to part with items or currency.
